RECENT TECHNOLOGIES OF TBM(SHIELD) & PNEUMATIC CAISSON
2. NO MAN WORKS UNDER HIGH AIR PRESSURE IN PNEUMATIC CAISSON
There were serious problems involving humans working inside of pneumatic caisson excavations, involving safety concerns and limited working time underground. There were huge cost and risks involved in performing deeper works under very high air pressure. The method was developed first by replacing man power by excavator, then from excavator on the soil to excavator mounted on the ceiling, then from workers in the working space to workers in the operation room above ground. (Ref. Figure-14)
The New DREAM method was developed on the base of the DREAM method from high technology and from experience gained through the achievement of more than 1800 pneumatic caissons. The outline and technology of DREAM and New DREAM methods are stated as follows.
