Captain Pile Method
A method that allows the designers to adjust the bonding state (fastening degree) of cast-in-place pile and foundation
Outline of the
construction method
Since stress generated on the pile head at the time of earthquake will be less, this method can reduce damage to the pile materials. The shear strength from the upper structure, which is generated at the time of earthquake, is transferred to the piles via a PC ring and by allocation of tension anchor reinforcement, and this method can deal with the pulling force generated on the piles. The captain pile method is easy to design and perform and is also superior in terms of cost performance.
Characteristics of the
construction method
Semirigid connection of piles and foundation can contribute to reducing bending moment of piles and footing beam and resulting damage at the time of earthquake.
Thanks to the reduction of bending moment of pile head, this method can (1) shorten pile diameter, (2) downsize the footing beam, and (3) reduce the amount of excavated soil, allowing for cost reduction and shorter work period.
Since there is no anchor reinforcement for the pile, pile head can be easily shaved, thus damages on reinforcing steels can be prevented. Thanks to the simple design of the joined section of pile head, which only needs PC ring placed onto it, workability and quality is increased.
This method can be applied regardless of the usage of building and structure type.
The applicable pile type is the cast-in-place concrete pile. (Pile diameter 800φ to 3000φ)
